The Littoral Zone
The Littoral Zone is the nearshore area where sunlight penetrates all the way to the sediment and allows aquatic plants like Cattail, Water Lillies, Picher plant, and much more to grow. the Littoral Zone can be found anywhere from lakes, oceans, rivers, and any bodies of water. Light levels of about 1% or less usually determine its depth. The Littoral Zone can also make a home for some small sea creatures like crabs, sea stars, and much more. This is another reason why the Littoral Zone is so important.
