The Great Depression Questions


Question 1) what was "The Great Depression?"
Answer: The Great Depression lasted from 1929-1939. It all started when The Stock Market had crashed on October 1929. This tragedy left millions with no jobs. At its lowest point, 15 million Americans were left unemployed. This drastically changed how many people lived their lives. Luckily, the Great depression ended in 1939. Hopefully, America won't have to go through that tragedy again.

Question 2) what are some aspects of the Great Depression that you did not see represented in the movie Bound for Glory?
Answer: Some aspects that I did not see in the movie were the stock market and how it crashed, and how investors lost millions because of it.  

Question 3) what is "The Union?"
Answer: The Union is a group that defends the justice of the workers

Question 4) Why was it an important thing?
Answer: I think the union was important because if you wanted to fight for something, joining or creating a union is a great way to try and get your point across.

Question 5) what do you think the connection between "the Growers" and "the Sponsors" and their disdain of Woody's music message?
Answer: I think the connection between the sponsors and the growers were the same which would be the greed of money. I also think that they didn’t want Woody to talk about it because they would of lost a lot of their money.

Question 6) what was the Message that Woody put forth into his music?
Answer: I thought the message found in his music had some inspirational speech like “though we are in tough times, and you might be going through some rough times, you can't give up and you have to keep trying”.

Question 7) why do you think his music was important to "the people?"
Answer: I think it was important to them because it gave them something to look forward to through the tough times. I also think that the Messages in his music gave them some inspiration to keep on fighting.

Question 8) we watched another movie in the same time era as the Great Depression called Cinderella Man. What is something that both main ideas and themes both shared?
Answer: I think one of the main ideas of the movies was no matter what goes on, (The Great Depression), you just have to keep trying and do your very best no matter what happens.

Question 9) what are your final thoughts of this time era?
Answer: I think that this time era was very difficult to live in. I give major props to the people who wouldn't give up and kept trying their best, no matter what. It must have taken a lot of perseverance and inspiration to overcome those dark days.
