The Trojan Horse

The Story of the Trojan horse

I really like the story of the Trojan horse. It is one of my favorite mythical stories about how the Greeks thought up of a plan to end the great battle against the Trojans called the Trojan War. I find it to be interesting and creative on how the Greeks claimed victory, but before we learn about the Trojan horse, we should first learn about the Trojan War, and how it all started.

The Trojan War started in 1250 B.C and lasted a long, excruciating, ten years. The conflict started when Trojan’s Prince Paris kidnapped goddess Queen Helen of Sparta, like a thief in the middle of the night. When the Greeks found out about the abduction of their Queen Helen, they were furious. With rage, the Greeks decided to carry out a war against the Trojans and reclaim their queen. The war was violent, bloody, and intense and, near the end, it had seemed like both sides were at a standstill.

With the two sides at a halt, a Greek warrior named Odysseus thought of a brilliant plan, that if it worked, the Greeks could possibly achieve victory. Odysseus’s plan was to make a giant wooden horse that could fit five fearsome warriors in it. Without hesitation. The Greeks got to work. In just three days, the 80ft. wooden horse was complete.
With their gigantic wooden horse finished, they could now finish their entire plan. The very next morning, the Greeks got up early and started burning down everything at camp except for the giant 80ft wooden horse. When they had finished with camp, everyone got on ships and sailed away. All that was left was a big wooden horse, Inside of the horse were five Greek warriors, including Odysseus.
On that same morning, when the Trojans awoke, all they saw was the wooden horse where the Greeks had camp. The Trojans curiously went down to the where the wooden horse was to check it out, thinking that the Greeks had surrendered and had left them a present. After examining the horse, the Trojans decided to take it for their own and to bring it into troy. With hundreds of Trojans helping, they were able to get the 80ft statue all the way up to troy.
With the five Greek warriors still inside, all they had to do was to wait for night time. As the day went on and as night finally fell, the five brave soldiers quietly climbed out of the horse and quickly got up on the stone wall with a burning torch to signal everyone on the boats to turn back. On that same morning, all the boats had arrived, and everyone was ready. The five Greek warriors opened up the gates of Troy from the inside and let everyone in for battle. Without hesitation, the Greeks killed everyone in Troy and recover their queen. The Greeks had achieved victory.

I really liked the story of the Trojan horse because of the creativity the Greeks used to defeat the Trojans and to get their Queen back. I don’t think that anyone else could ever think of something like what Odysseus thought. My favorite parts of the story were how they built the Trojan horse, and how they made it seem like they retreated, Even though they didn’t. The only part that doesn’t make much sense to me is how Troy did not have any night watchers guarding Troy at all, and basically let the Greeks come into Troy, even though they didn’t know.

I recommend this story to anyone who likes a fun, intense, and interesting read that have an exciting end to it. This story will definitely make me read more Greek story’s that are hopefully as exciting as the Trojan horse story. I hope that if you enjoyed this story, you should look for some more interesting Greek and or mythological stories. This story will always be remembered as one of the greats.
