School Post: Phytoplankton



🌊Phytoplankton🌊


Image result for phytoplankton    Phytoplankton are the self feeding components of the plankton community, and are a key part of oceans, lakes, freshwater basin ecosystems. The name, Phytoplankton, comes from the Greek words phyton, meaning plant. Most phytoplankton are way to small to be seen from the naked eye. So you have to see them with a microscope. These tiny things contain Chlorophyll and need sunlight to live and grow. Some other types of Phytoplankton are bacteria and green algae. Phytoplankton are very important for many different reasons. One reason is that they are an important source of food for larger animals. Two, they are the first link in the food chain. Third and lastly, they are known as primary producers because they produce the first forms of food. 


🦑Squids🦑



Question 1: What is so unique about the bioluminescent squid?
Answer: I would say how they glow in the dark! 

Question 2: How large can a giant squid grow to be? 
Answer: A staggering 45 feet! 

Question 3: Why do squids produce ink?
Answer: They use the ink for self defense to protest themselves. 

Question 4: What do cuttlefish and calamari have in common?
Answer: Both the cuttlefish and the calamari lose their hard outer shell at some point in their lives.

Question 5: what does the arrow squid eat?
Answer: They eat fish and other squid.
